What’s your favorite trip? - Culture

ree

Our second post in this series. Seems fair as we get that question a lot. Wow you have done so many cool things, but what was your favorite trip? The answer? It depends. We have lots of favorite experiences across the trips that we have taken so its impossible to say which is our favorite trip. We can share some of our favorite experiences (some on this site and some to come). Next up – culture.

Cultural immersion

Our world today tends to focus more on our differences than on our similarities. We have been lucky to meet people all across the world and found that at a person level we are all more than same than different. Not on the list, but in a conversation with the owner of our hotel in Istanbul we learned that he 1) wanted a better life for his kids, 2) felt that the government taxed him too much, 3) his kids spent too much time on the internet. Sound familiar?

Camping with Bedouins in Jordan

  • Sharing tea as the sun sets as we shared stories of family and our differing home lives. Learning about our host’s 26 brothers and sisters and 125+ nieces and nephews (he remembers most of their names). We broke bread and learned of their love of their land and their culture. We also spent time with a different Bedouin tribe and got a peak at their lives in the picture that is a part of this post. More information click here.

Tibet

  • Our experience of a people who live their spiritual values. We experienced food and festivals. We spent a lot of time with our guides (we had too, you can’t travel in Tibet without a guide) so we had a great opportunity to get to know them and immerse ourselves. We enjoyed every moment in Tibet, but also learned about repression and cultural genocide. To find out more, click here.

Exploring Ireland

  • Welcomed warmly everywhere we went. The smallest pubs in little towns to Temple Bar in Dublin we joined in with the food, the drink and the song. We enjoyed the spirit and the fun (and the uniquely Irish sense of humor). Details will come soon.

Hanging out in Paris

  • We love to just enjoy the city. Wandering the streets. Sampling the cafe's. Seeing the sites. What could possibly be wrong with a cafe in Paris? Details will come soon.

Hanging out in London

  • Same as Paris, but with a different flavor and flair (and traffic coming from the other direction). Details will come soon.
